SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
Bridget Rae Achterberg of the Abbotsford Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter in Wisconsin was named winner of the Swine Production-Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award Program at the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. The award is given to a student who has shown outstanding achievement in agribusiness gained through the establishment of a business, working for an existing business, volunteering, or gaining hands-on career experience in other ways. This award is sponsored by LA-CO® Industries, Inc's ALL-WEATHER® brand as part of their pledge to continually support the agricultural industry.
Achterberg began her swine operation at just eight years old, after purchasing 10 sows from her grandparents. Soon after she began breeding show pigs and learning the details of swine production, including artificial insemination. Achterberg also has honed skills in vaccinations, teeth clipping, dipping navels, and more.
Achterberg and three other FFA members from various chapters, were selected to compete for this award. Each finalist received a plaque and a $500. As the national winner, Bridget received an additional $500 at a special ceremony that took place at the convention.
